Literary Work

Rachel Harkai has been finalist in the 2021 & 2019 National Poetry Series, runner-up in the 2016 92Y Discovery Poetry Contest, and the recipient of a 2010 Kresge Artist Fellowship in the Literary Arts. She earned an MFA in Writing from the University of Michigan Helen Zell Writers’ Program and a BA from the University of Michigan with concentrations in Creative Writing and Comparative Literature.

She has held residencies with the Montello Foundation (Montello, NV), Goldwell Open Air Museum (Beatty, NV), Mothers Milk (Newton, KS), and Hub City Writers’ Project (Spartanburg, SC), among others. She has also previously served as the Volunteer Coordinator at Room Project, an intersectional community workspace for women and non-binary writers and artists in Detroit.
